The month of August was filled with sports events as teams began pre-league events. Girls’ volleyball, girls’ golf, girls’ tennis, football and boys’ beach volleyball have all begun competition.

Football

Football has burst to a strong start going 2-0 in regular season games. The team racked up wins versus Buena 33-21 and Calabasas 23-22. With having an early scrimmage win versus El Camino, the football team has been rolling over competition and looks to keep their momentum going into September with games against Brentwood, Nordhoff (Ojai), Thousand Oaks and Agoura. JV went 0-2 in that time with close losses to Buena and Calabasas.

Girls’ Volleyball

The girls’ volleyball season began with the first competition being on Aug. 16. The team has played seven games in the span of Aug. and has gone 1-6 in that time period. The team lost to La Reina 2-3, Louisville (Woodland Hills) 1-3, Dos Pueblos 0-3, Camarillo 1-2, Royal 0-2 and Oaks Christian 0-3. The team got its first win of the season in a tournament match versus Knight (Palmdale) on Aug. 26.

Girls’ Golf

The girl’s golf team has started off strong this year coming in second place out of 17 teams in the Lady Pirate Invitational and starting league competition with a bang with a 200-253 blowout versus Camarillo. Lily Huynh, Joanna Hong and Derica Chiu scored 35, 37 and 37 respectively in that matchup. The team hopes to keep that momentum going into many key league matchups this September.

Girls’ Tennis

The girls’ tennis team began competition this August with games against Viewpoint and Oaks Christian. The team was able to win both matches with an 11-7 win against Viewpoint and a 16-2 win against Oaks Christian.

Boys’ Beach Volleyball

The boys’ beach volleyball team participated in the Marmonte League Pair Tournament and Oak Park had the first and third highest placing teams with the help of Preston Kling and Nico Songco.

OPHS fall sports has gotten off to a good start and each program will try to keep that success going into the month of September when most league competitions will begin.
