Oak Park high school’s girls volleyball participated in the Sylmar Varsity Tournament, and brought back a huge win by defeating all the opposing teams on Oct. 11.
The girls had mixed emotions before the tournament, as the stakes were high and the pressure was on.
“Unfortunately, I will not be at the tournament this weekend, but seeing how this team is and how developed we are I think we will do really, really well,” varsity player Samantha Liba said. “We did a Chatsworth tournament a few weeks ago, and we weren’t able to beat Taft but we had a great game against them, so I think we will bring it back this time and play really competitively.”
Although the competition was challenging, the girls had faith in their ability to bring home a victory. A previous tournament on Sept. 19, gave the team a gist of the contenders and prepared them to succeed.
“I think we will do really well,” sophomore Lia Gitler said. “We have good competition against Taft, but otherwise I think we can win. It will be a great weekend.”
The team won against all opponents including Santa Monica, Polytechnic, East Valley, Kennedy, Eagle Rock, Sherman Oaks and Taft.
With all the hard work the girls put in throughout the season, this tournament showcased their dedication and effort to the team. The girls were able to bring back a true triumph from the Sylmar Tournament.
“We’re going to win for Coach Josh. #RankSeason,” Liba said. And so they did.
