The Oak Park girls’ varsity soccer season is underway, with six losses, three ties and six wins.

“We’ve had a rough start to the season but our momentum has picked up and I have faith that we will finish out strong,” senior, co-captain and defensive player Rachel Julius said.

Senior, forward and co- captain, Hannah Adler, said she believes that the team has already shown significant signs of improvement.

“Moorpark had had previously beat us 4-0 in the Grace Brethren tournament, so they thought they had it easy when it came to playing us in league. However, we gave them a run for their money,” Adler said. “Even though we may have lost the game 4-3, we played with so much heart and intensity that we proved to be the better team on the field that night.”

Senior and goalie Lauren Bernstein said she agrees.

“Our game against Moorpark was really a turning point in our season. Although we did not win and we did not have the referees on our side, our team left everything we had on the field and really looked like one strong unit,” Bernstein said.

The team also defeated Grace Brethren 2-0.

“That [game] was the first time we really came together as a team and were able to produce a good result. Every- one battled hard and left it all out on the field,” senior, for- ward and co-captain Jordyn Bradbury said.

In addition to games and practices, the team also bonds during off-the-field traditions.

“Every year we sleep at a hotel in Simi Valley for the Grace Brethren tournament in order to bond as a team be- fore league starts,” Adler said. “This year we decided to do a rap battle in which the coaches and the players had the opportunity to roast each other.”

According to Adler, this year the team decided to do a dance battle.

“I absolutely loved the dance battles. It was always fun switching things up and roasting the coaches,” junior, midfield and forward Bailey Ucker said. “I am proud to say that I love each and every one of my team of sisters.”
