Monday: drama department to perform “Hair,” California still in drought

Happy Monday, Oak Park. Here’s what you need to know to wrap up your weekend and begin your week:

This week: drama department to perform “Hair”

AP Exams will continue to be sold at the student store and online until Wednesday, March 15. They are each $109.

There will be a Board of Education meeting Tuesday, March 14, in room G-9 at 6 p.m.

The drama department will perform its spring musical production, “Hair” Thursday, March 16 to Saturday, March 18. Weekday performances will begin at 7 p.m. while the weekend performance will begin at 2 p.m. All performances will be held in the Pavilion.

A mock SAT will be held in G-9 at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 18.

Next week: CAASPP to be administered to juniors

The California Assessments of Student Performance and Progress, or CAASPP, will be administered to all juniors Tuesday, March 21 to Wednesday, March 22. Makeup exams will be administered Thursday to Friday in the same week, at the same time.

There will be a Board of Education meeting Tuesday, March 21, in room G-9 at 6 p.m.

A mock ACT will be held in G-9 at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 25.

Beyond Oak Park: California still in drought, officials say

Due to the excess of rain over the past few months, many Californians said they believe the drought is over. However, California is still officially in a drought state of emergency. Seventy-eight percent of California is out of the drought, while parts of the state, such as Santa Barbara, remain dry. Read more from the New York Times.

More beyond Oak Park:

  • Many South Korean citizens are protesting against the corruption scandal that brought down their president, Park Geun-hye. Since November, the capital of South Korea, Seoul, has been the site of massive demonstrations most of which demand Park to step down as president.  Park’s powers have been suspended while the Constitutional court decides whether to remove her from office permanently.   • President Trump claimed that former President Barack Obama wiretapped phones at Trump Tower during his election campaign. However, no evidence has been brought forth regarding the issue. Obama’s director of national intelligence, James Clapper, has said that nothing resembling Trump’s allegations have taken place. Read more from ABC News.
