New music now

Everyone has access to music. It blares from radios, iPhones and even in grocery stores. There’s something special about music. There is no other artform that everyone enjoys.

Admittedly, different people have different tastes, but we’d like to think that music from the summer of 2018 is the an exception to that. We know that one summer of music pleasing absolutely everyone is absolutely impossible, but take a look at the evidence in the streaming records. The music may not have pleased everyone, but it was pretty close.

Many albums dropped this month bombard most of our playlists. “ASTROWORLD” by Travis Scott was one of the most influential albums of the month. He provided lyrics that possessed such great symbolism and featured Frank Ocean and Drake on his songs. Scott’s most recognizable tracks from the album are “STARGAZING,” “SICKO MODE” and “YOSEMITE.” We’re no pro’s at music prose, but the twists and turns the music poses for the listener, not to mention the personal lyrics, engage the audience in just an exhilarating way.

According to Spotify, “SICKO MODE” has been streamed over 12 million times and is currently on the United States Top 50 charts.

But Scott’s work was like a sewn-on patch. The patch is apparent and right in front of your eyes, but cut it off, and you can replace it with any patch of any shape or size. If we look past Scott’s iconic summer blaze, we can see Eminem’s unexpected album, “Kamikaze.”

A few of the songs from Eminem’s album are “Lucky You” and “The Ringer,” which currently sit high on the top charts of iTunes and Spotify. This album confronts many issues with modern music and rappers in the industry today. For example, “The Ringer” calls out rap artist Lil Pump for his simple music, and Pump even said in a Instagram comment he deserved the diss.

And, of course, no conversation about the 2018 summer songs can happen without mentioning
“In My Feelings” by Drake. Admit it, the lyric “Kiki, do you love me,” was stuck in everyone’s head on a loop.

Like a summer day on Zuma beach, the track was a perfect mix of under-the-sun fun and tropical vacation vibes. There was a total of 25 songs, one side of rap and the other of R&B. The song “In My Feelings” featured on his double sided album “Scorpion.” If that doesn’t make you gasp like every cliché teenager in a horror movie, then you need to be educated in pop-culture.

Ariana Grande’s fourth studio album, “Sweetener,” was another gem in the summer repertoire. The most notable song on this album is “God is a woman.” The song demands female empowerment and equal opportunities for men and woman. Come on, we have to salute her for adding breakage to the age-old glass ceiling.

Coming Sept. 21, Life Is Beautiful Festival has a stellar lineup.

Some of the main headliners are The Weekend, Florence and the Machine, Travis Scott,
Arcade Fire and Tyler the Creator. The weekend of Sept. 21-23 in Las Vegas, Nevada is going to encapsulate all of the remarkable music of the past summer.

Some other upcoming concerts are The Neighborhood at the Greek Theatre on Sept.
18, Jay-Z and Beyonce at the Rose Bowl on Sept. 22, while Childish Gambino is also performing at the Greek Theatre on Sept. 26.

What we’re basically trying to say is that if you really don’t believe us, that after all these examples you still are harboring doubt, then attend these concerts and perhaps you will
witness the magic we have been cherishing all summer.

By now I bet you are dying to hear our music suggestions. Well, if you must know, they are “SICKO MODE” by Travis Scott, “Taste” by Tyga, “Big Bank” by YG, “Eastside” by Khalid and Halsey, “FEFE” by 6ix9ine, “Mo Bamba” by Sheck Wes and “I like the Way” by lovelytheband.

Whether you like jazz, classical, rap, hip-hop, country, opera or pop, you have to admit, August 2018 was a great month for music.

You might have thought we were just listing out titles to gain followers on Apple Music, but music is an integral part of our society and plays a great role in shaping our generation. So, don’t listen because an article told you to, listen because you are aware of how life-changing a couple of songs can be. Also, try listening to a diversity of genres and artists other than your normal everyday playlists — you might be surprised how much you like it and how much it might change your mindset.
