In the midst of an unpredictable school year, students are offered an outlet through which they can express their concerns on prevalent issues. The Student Identity Showcase is being developed by senior Amaan Nabeel, with help from other students, English III Honors teacher Jennifer Hankins, and Art teacher Anna Mendez.

“The Student Identity Showcase is a display of various artwork and writing pieces from Oak Park High School students to highlight the issues that students face almost everyday. Some of these issues are seen daily while others are not seen by the people around,” Nabeel said.

Nabeel hopes that with this showcase, students will realize that they are not alone in their struggles. Consequently, students may feel more united, and teachers and administrators more aware of student issues.

“At Oak Park, we have many leaders that voice the student opinion on so many issues that I thought maybe we can capture some of these issues in a more artistic and in the moment perspective,” Nabeel said.

This process is still in the works.

“The showcase will be taking place on and around the I-building from February 28 to March 4. There also will be two events which all students will be able to participate in. [This] includes a hand-painting activity and a ribbon activity. These events will be happening prior and they will then be integrated into the showcase,” Nabeel said.

More information will be released as the showcase date approaches. Check back to the Talon for updates.
