The flair of flare
Flattering and fashionable, the well-loved pant returns
Last winter, we officially said goodbye to skinny jeans and hello to wide-leg looks. The effortless baggy look is comfortable, fun to style, has been seen on “the runway and streets” and is back and better than ever in the form of flare pants. Notice it’s not just jeans — yoga pants have made their comeback too by leaving the studio and traveling far from downward dog; they are versatile and can be worn for “lounging, working out, and beyond,” SELF shares. From straight and skinny legs to bootcut and bell-bottom, it’s time for our silhouette to change.
As seen in Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again!, young Donna’s wardrobe highlights bright colors with a vintage boho appeal, modernizing iconic ‘70s styles. She wears “a rotating combination of denim overalls, floppy hats, … killer bell-bottoms, and [more],” Racked states.
The Wall Street Journal noted that “flares are swelling in popularity again” as they used to be worn with ”70s platform heels; and rode low on hips circa Y2K.” Flares accentuate all body types, especially curvy shapes. New York designer Nili Lotan calls the pants “universally flattering” as they “balance the hips.”
Carefree and attention-grabbing, flare pants also have “elongating powers,” giving “the illusion of length.” Whether worn with boots, heels or sneakers, flares feel like an accessory in and of themselves. They add a little something extra, providing dimension to an otherwise plain outfit.
These fun, stylish pants work for countless occasions. As flare pants are resurfacing, take advantage and hop on the trend. What’s not to love about something that’s comfortable and easy to find? Some may even call it magical.
