38th annual Great Race of Agoura Hills

OPHS students volunteer and participate in the races

On Sat., Apr. 1, 2023, Oak Park High School students participated in the 38th annual Great Race of Agoura Hills. Students competed in a variety of races from the one mile fun run to the 5K.

Freshman Kean Castenaeda, a varsity runner for the cross country and track teams, finished third overall in the 5K race with a time of 16 minutes and 38 seconds. The course covers 3.1 miles through Agoura Hills communities with the finish line at Chumash Park.

Freshman Sydney Youde, a cross country and track runner, had a positive experience with the race.

“It runs very fast. The atmosphere was fantastic because people were all over cheering us on. I enjoy this race a lot,” Youde said.

The race concluded with a “post-race party” with volunteers standing at booths handing out food and flyers to various organizations that supported the race. Many OPHS students were volunteering in association with the OPHS National Honor Society chapter.

“Volunteering at the race for NHS was amazing experience because we got to see the entire community—regardless of age, gender, and fitness level—come together to do something that benefits their health,” said sophomore Kavya Sreeraj.
