Oak Park High School’s ComedySportz team is back for the new year. Tryouts were held on Sept. 12 and 13 at 6:30 p.m. in room G9 and decisions were posted Wednesday night after callbacks. According to Elizabeth Dusek, ComedySportz Team Manager, the tryout process ran smoothly.
“It was great,” Dusek said. “We had so many excellent people try out. It really sucks that we can’t take everyone.”
The workshops took place on Sept. 5, 6 and 8, giving the students an outlet to prepare and practice before tryouts.
“It really helps them get a feel of what improv is, [because] most people have never done improv, I never did improv before any of my workshops,” Dusek said. “We teach them some of the games that they will be doing, potentially callbacks and just really get to see if they have an interest at all.”
The team’s goal for this year is to have even more fun and be more entertaining than last year.
“I think based on how tryouts are going, we have a good team already,” returning player Livi Gaeta said. “I think we’re going to have a good season. I have high hopes and I think it’s just going to be a very silly season.”
For those who missed the chance to join this season, the team encourages you to try again next year.
“I would say just go for it,” Dusek said. “Unless you want to do comedy professionally, you’re not gonna have this specific opportunity to do it again.”
