An Athens Trash Collection truck dumped its contents into the Oak Park High School parking lot after the driver realized the contents were on fire the morning of Jan. 4.
“The incident was confined to the parking lot, and firefighters were on the scene immediately to put out the fire,” Ragini Aggarwal, Public Information and Strategic Communications officer of Oak Park Unified School District, wrote in a StudentSquare post.
Fortunately, the driver’s quick thinking prevented the flames from spreading any further.
“Athens staff has cleaned up the trash from our parking lot and is pressure washing the parking lot to ensure it is thoroughly cleaned,” Aggarwal continued. “Additionally, staff will check classrooms and offices tomorrow for any signs of smoke and address any issues to ensure a safe and comfortable environment for everyone.”
Following the incident, no signs of smoke damage were found. All classrooms were deemed safe, allowing school to stay on schedule.
