Several students recognized at the Conejo Valley Juried Art Show

OPHS artists competed for awards and prizes upon acceptance

Oak Park High School had nine of its students accepted into the 2024 Greater Conejo Valley Student Awards Juried Art Show, held on April 11. The event was co-sponsored by the Westlake Village Art Guild and the City of Agoura Hills Cultural Arts Council, and took place at the Agoura Hills Recreation and Events Center. Out of the seventy-five positions available for the art show, OPHS students Vicky Du, Riley Welch, Sadie Berger, Neala Blank, Nicholas Fine, Vincent Zohar, Katelyn Dimond, Lexi Mandadapu and Emmalynn Tsai were selected.

“The purpose of the show is to recognize the talented students and dedicated art teachers that enrich the fabric of our community,” Event Coordinator Lynn Mowery said in an application form for the competition.

Applicants were told to submit one art piece each, ranging in a variety of categories. The submission categories included 2-D fine art, 3-D fine art, Color Photography and Monochrome Photography.

“It was a lot of fun,” Berger said. “The best part of being in an art class is admiring others’ work. Having the opportunity to see work from other schools was extremely rewarding. ”

Vicky Du won the second place award for 2D art, as well as a prize of $75. Emmalynn Tsai received an honorable mention for 2D art.

“It was such an awesome experience, and everyone was just so talented,” Du said. “I’m honored to have been representing my school.”

Competing high schools consisted of OPHS, Oaks Christian, Thousand Oaks, La Reina, Agoura, Newbury Park and Calabasas.

“It was really cool to see everyone else’s art and to know that I’m up to their standards,” Blank said. “It was super cool to be accepted.”
