After last year’s 7-11 overall record, the Eagles are back and ready to dominate on the court.
“We are really excited about our team this year,” head coach Georgia Mitchell said. “We have a lot of young talent.”
Unfortunately, due to a series of injuries last year, the team did not come out with the season they wanted.
“We had a lot of injuries last year,” Mitchell said. “We had 16 girls on varsity and half of them came in injured. This year we’re healthy and pretty deep in every position.”
With this year’s main focus on team building and coming together as a program, they hope it will help their dynamic and competitiveness on the court.
“We do journaling, every other night,” junior Andrea Mise said. “We all sit in a circle and discuss topics that Coach Georgia gives us, then we elaborate as a group.”
Holding their heads high, the team is focused on how to get better and better each day.
“We have better energy, good chemistry and flow,” senior captain Natalia Galstian said. “During the past couple of years, this team has gone through adversity so this year we are coming together to compete to win.”
During summer conditioning and practice, the team focuses on their strengths while addressing their weaknesses.
“Since mid-July, we’ve been doing everyday practices for at least two hours,” Galstian said. “We’ve had two preseason tournaments to prepare us for long, competitive five-set matches.”
With good preparation and mindset, the girls are ready to see their hard work pay off in each of the games. Their first home game is against Valencia High School on Aug. 20.
