Oak Park High School’s ComedySportz team marked the beginning of the year on Aug. 23. Audience member and senior Charlie Getz described the game as “hilarious” and “unlike any other sport.”
“It is a fast-paced, competitive and interactive improv show where two teams go head to head … on the spot based on suggestions from the audience,” Getz wrote to the Talon. “I always enjoy the ComedySportz games because a lot of the people on the team are some of my closest friends. It is really fun watching the game itself, but being in the audience makes the experience even better.”
The players entertained the audience by performing games such as Oracle, Dating Game and one of Getz’s favorites, Blind Line.
“During the team’s scene, they have to bend down and incorporate whatever sentence [from audience suggestions] is on the piece of paper into the storyline,” Getz wrote. “It gets crazy with this particular game. The suggestions were so funny that the players couldn’t help but laugh at themselves.”
Even though it can be a bit nerve-racking at times, ComedySportz allows players to genuinely express themselves and connect with the Oak Park community.
“I love the feeling of complete freedom being up there, and I love being with other weirdos,” senior and red team Captain Ava Winkle wrote to the Talon. “It makes me feel like I’m being my authentic self on stage, even though I’m technically acting. I feel like I can just have fun, be weird, be crazy and not have a care in the world.”

“It was super fun as always,” sophomore and audience member Lila Marshall wrote to the Talon. “The environment is very inviting, upbeat and it’s always so fun to sit with your friends, laugh and be able to talk about the jokes later on.”
