The Oak Park High School boys varsity football team had their first football game on Aug. 23. They played in a strenuous game against Agoura High School, that resulted in a loss of 28-48.
Although the team lost, all the players worked hard and gained much-needed experience for the future.
“Agoura wasn’t the outcome we wanted but it showed us our strengths and weaknesses and what we need to work on,” senior captain Issac Thomas said. “Most importantly it showed us that we are a good team and we have what it takes to make it to playoffs and win games.”
Senior captain Taylor Cruz reflects on the game and is hopeful for improvement as the season goes on.
“I feel our first game could’ve gone better, we produced a lot of yards on offense, and our defense made plays and stuffed their run,” Cruz said. “Our biggest flaw was the crucial mistakes we made. We will continue to learn and improve week by week.”
Despite the loss, Cruz feels optimistic about the future for the team and is ready to put in the effort to win.
“Our team’s goal is to make it to playoffs,” Cruz said. “I believe we have what it takes to make it, we just need to continue working hard.”
