The Oak Park High School Wellness Center finished out August with a friendship bracelet activity on Wednesday, Aug. 24 in H-16.
This event was part of the August Wellness Center theme “Building Communities” and all students were welcome to make some DIY bracelets with their peers.
“It was fun, I just got to talk with my friends and put some beads on strings,” sophomore Mia Nobel said.
This is only one of the many programs orchestrated by Wellness Counselor Fatima Hernandez, who has overseen the center since it was created three years ago. Since the Wellness Center’s beginning, Hernandez has worked to orchestrate joy-sparking events for the OPHS student body and loves talking to the kids who walk through her doors.
“Every activity attracts different students and I like seeing that,” Hernandez said. “And then I get to meet new students because they bring their friends.”
On a table in the Wellness Center there was an assortment of beads, string and everything participants would need to make bracelets. These supplies have been accumulated over the years, and allow for students to be as peaceful and creative as possible.
“The bracelet has my initials, which is funny because my initials are PHD and I want to be a doctor,” sophomore Peter Duggan said.
The September theme is “Reach Out.” To see which activities are happening next, you can ask your teachers to see the list or check the Wellness Center calendar posted in H-16 and around campus.
