Oak Park High School’s Parent Student Faculty Association, is one of the most effective ways parents are able to become involved with the student body. By holding various events throughout the school year, the PFA is able to improve OPHS by creating a more positive learning environment, and this year will be no different.
The PFA raises money for on-campus clubs and tackles the issues students face throughout their school day, providing them with more opportunities to thrive.
“Every year the PFA supports the student education programs: The Talon, Veritas Magazine, Yearbook, Peer Counseling, Robotics, Speech & Debate, Model U.N. and Mock Trial,” PFA Co-President Melissa Brockman wrote to the Talon. “We also support our teachers and staff by supplying them with additional school supplies and tools that are not supplied by the district.”
In order to continue to see change on campus, the PFA has planned many fundraisers.
“The PFA raises money through its annual No-Frills Fundraiser, PFA Membership drive, Corporate Matching program and educational programs such as book sales, mock SAT/ACT and SAT/ACT boot camps,” PFA Co-president Lisa Clayden wrote to the Talon.
The PFA also has many plans and goals in place for this school year that they hope to achieve.
“The goals for the Parent Faculty Association (PFA) this year are to increase awareness of what we do and to help get our community more involved in supporting our teachers, staff and students,” Brockman wrote. “In order to do that we hope to raise $75,000 in donations, $8,000 in membership and $10,000 from our corporate matching program.”
In the past few years, the PFA has been able to make positive contributions to OPHS and they continue to put forth their best efforts in order to keep that tradition alive.
“I have been volunteering since my kids were in preschool by being on PA boards, bringing a dance party to their elementary school, securing a grant for new books at their school library and now helping to have healthy vending machines at our high school,” Claydon wrote. “My drive and passion is to provide memorable life experiences for our kids and school communities.”
