Souja boy. Men in Black. Barbie.
These are just some of the Halloween costumes that had Oak Park High School students hooked last year. By looking at the latest social media trends or our favorite music artists, students are able to come up with creative costumes to bring to life.
To ensure their costume is thought out and unique, students recommend looking for ideas ahead of time.
“I get a lot of my inspiration from Instagram and Pinterest, and to find separate pieces, I scroll on Amazon until I find something I like,” sophomore Max Steinberg said. “I also like to have a backup outfit I can put together at the last minute, just in case my original costume doesn’t arrive on time.”
Another instance of pop culture influencing an outfit is through the viral movies we watch.
“I saw the movie Saltburn and loved that movie, so I ran with it,” senior Brystian Heine-Van Fossen said. “I knew that I wanted it to be an authentic costume because I love to find unique pieces, especially ones celebrities wear. So, I tried to find exactly what Jacob Elordi wore in the movie or scene, researched into the designer and tried to put together a high-quality piece.”
Planning outfits with a friend or two can make the Halloween experience much more exciting as well.
“It’s fun to plan what you are wearing with your friends too so we can match,” sophomore Sophie Bi wrote to the Talon. “I also really love DIY-ing costumes because it makes the process so much more enjoyable and rewarding.”
As Halloween quickly creeps around the corner, students are ready to find out what the next biggest Halloween trend will be.
“Whatever you wear, as long as you are proud and confident in yourself, that’s what makes a good costume,” Heine-Van Fossen said.
