With a new season on the horizon, the Oak Park High School Stunt team is preparing to showcase their skills, determination and teamwork in what promises to be a competitive and exhilarating year. One of the most exciting aspects of this season is the increase in team size and new leadership.
“This season is different from the last one because we have a bigger team with more girls who are ready to work and win,” sophomore Livana Anderson said. “While also having a new coach who has helped the whole team learn so much so quickly.”
The team has been working tirelessly to perfect their routines and improve their overall performance.
“My team and I are preparing for this season by perfecting our skills and building the strength and stamina for our routines to get the most successful outcome,” sophomore Taylor Tingzon said. “Everyone comes in with productive energy and is always working to achieve their goal for the day.”
However, relying on each other is the key step to success
“When it comes to our strengths. I would say our determination, trust and bond with each other is unmatched and will hopefully lead us to success,” Anderson said. “ Because of our new team’s dynamic and fresh energy our outlook is strong, our aim is to win some games and try harder routines.”
With a new season ahead, the team is setting their sights on victory with a positive attitude.
“So far, our practices have been going very well. The team mindset is very positive and everyone is motivated to get their spot on the mat,” junior captain Marissa Kalan said.
While the team has made significant strides, they recognize the challenges that come with a relatively smaller roster compared to other schools.
“Even though our team is bigger than last year, compared to other schools, our team isn’t big enough,” Anderson said. “Since we reuse the same athletes, we tend to lose stamina quicker.”
Despite these setbacks, the Oak Park Stunt athletes consider themselves more than just a team, but a family.
“Our team’s atmosphere is one of a kind. I look forward to seeing all my teammates and coaches at practice and have a smile on my face. Some of these girls are like sisters to me, and it’s a bond I’ll always be grateful for,” Tingzon said.
