The Oak Park High School boys golf team is ready to take the league by storm. With a balance of incoming freshmen, strong returners and the league MVP at the top of their roster, the Eagles have big plans this season.
“As always, our goal is to have fun and win the Coastal Canyon league by improving with every match,” head coach Donn James said. “Beyond that, we expect to have players and the team qualify for CIF playoffs.”
While the team has plenty of returning players, the biggest highlights are the freshmen. The incoming class, led by Jack LaSalle and Andre Constantin, is ready to make a big impact on the team this season.
“All of our returners have matured,” James said. “We have added some solid new talent with the freshmen and we’re looking forward to their contributions to the team.”
While the team is stronger than last season, they realize that every team is growing as well. Depth has been a constant issue, but between the incoming freshmen and the rest of the roster, that issue seems to be resolved.
“I think we definitely have a chance in CIF,” LaSalle said. “Everybody on the team is invested.”
With everybody on the team all the way in, the team has a much better chance going forward. However, there will still be competition.
“In the past few years, our biggest competition has been Simi Valley but we believe it will most likely be Camarillo this year,” James said. “As with all high school sports, it all depends on which team comes to play and wants to win more.”
