“Our game plan is just to be relaxed,” junior guard Delaney White said. “We have to play disciplined and be poised.”
And poised, they were. The Oak Park High School girls basketball team dismantled Summit in a commanding 65-24 victory that came days after handling Oxnard 58-36. Winners of their last 11 games, the team isn’t planning on slowing down anytime soon.
“It’s really exciting that we are in the quarterfinals,” freshman guard Ava Rogerson

said. “It gives me and my team a lot of motivation to keep playing hard so we can win the championship.”
While the score may seem to suggest otherwise, the game wasn’t easy the entire way. Rogerson suffered an injury early in the first quarter, limiting the Eagles to a five-person lineup.

“After I got hurt our team didn’t have any subs left,” Rogerson said. “I think they did a really good job staying focused and not letting anything else bother them.”
Once Rogerson checked back in, the team executed the game plan to perfection.
“Overall I think it was our defense that helped us win the game,” White said. “We ran our offense and got what we wanted out of it which helped even more.”

Although the team has had it fairly simple thus far, they aren’t planning to let up as their upcoming games come closer.
“We can’t let their crowd affect how we play,” Rogerson said. “We’re going to force the other team to put the ball on the open floor and not just shoot open shoots.”
