GeoGuessr Club was created this year and is a club that allows people to create friendships and have fun while playing GeoGuessr. GeoGuessr is a popular online game where you locate and try to pinpoint a certain location in the world. It uses 360-degree camera cars that go around the world taking photos; the player then moves around those photos and tries to figure out where they are.
President of GeoGuessr Club William Tang has found GeoGuessr to be a life-changing experience that everyone should try out.
“I think it’s just so fun learning more about parts of the world, the language, what [countries] look like, the architecture and I’ve really found that the world was a lot more beautiful than I thought through GeoGuessr,” Tang said. “There are many countries that are really pretty and I am so glad that Google was able to capture it with their street view cars. Now I really want to go visit those countries.”

“I feel like it’s a great game because it brings a lot of people together by learning about the world,” Tang said. “Always remember: Chile has all-white road lines, rifts are found in Senegal, Montenegro, and Albania, and German-style bollards with red reflectors are found in Croatia, Hungary, and sometimes north Macedonia,” Tang said.

In GeoGuessr, you are given a location around the world and you need to guess where you are. There are many different indicators that tell you where you are—from street signs to telephone poles—they all help you pinpoint your exact location.
“I think a lot of it is just really fun, especially when you get a location right,” Tang said. “Obviously, when you get a very easy location and you get it right that’s good and all, but I think, when you get some random dirt road in the middle of nowhere and you’re looking at trees and rocks, those are the best locations when you get them right.”
Whether you are playing GeoGuessr for fun or in competitive mode, it’s always better to play with a friend.
“I [made GeoGuessr club] because I’m a big fan of GeoGuessr and I think a lot of people also enjoy the game a lot,” Tang said. “I just wanted to bring this to the school because I think it is a very fun way to bring people together.”
