At Oak Park High School, Interact Club is all about helping better society through community service. The club is closely affiliated with the Rotary Club in Westlake, and many club events are held jointly.
Rotary Westlake is part of the Rotaract youth organization, which started in 1968 in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is dedicated to developing leaders and community servers which aligns closely with Interact Club.
“My favorite club event that we have done this year was our ‘Magic in Action’ project,” president Sanjeevani Kumar said. “We partnered with the Rotaract Club in Yerevan [the capital of Armenia] to be able to buy holiday presents for children in Armenia who were displaced due to the country’s internal conflicts.”
Interact club is involved with events that go beyond OPHS. One such event is the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards.
“Our club has an annual international project and multiple community-wide events,” Kumar said. “Students, both members and non-members, can also apply to attend the RYLA. This is one of the main events among other leadership events hosted by the local Rotary clubs for the Interact Clubs and other interested students.”
The OPHS Interact Club offers students a chance to grow, learn, make a lasting impact on communities and be recognized for it. Whether you’re passionate about global issues, leadership development or want to get community service experience, the Interact Club allows students to connect with like-minded people and make a real difference in people’s lives.
The next planned event is a volunteering opportunity at the Conejo Valley Days parade and meetings take place every other Thursday in H-2 at lunch. For more information about Interact Club visit @ophs_interact_club on Instagram or email president Kumar at [email protected].
