After months of preparation and hard work, the Oak Park High School dance team is prepared to perform again. In the past two years, the dance program has expanded, adding a JV team and now competing in local dance competitions.
The varsity team is going to showcase their talents with a variety of dances in the Pavilion on March 30.
“The dance showcase is when we show parents, friends and students everything that we have been working so hard for recently,” sophomore Lily Deveso said. “We show many dances like basketball pieces we did, competition routines and much more. It’s even an opportunity for students to choreograph solos and duos and show their work.”
The girls have had many practices leading up to the performance and are well-prepared as a team.
“To prepare we had many long hours of practice after our competition. We have three to four practices a week with varying times and dress rehearsals,” Deveso said.
The dance showcase happens every year and is a great time for the girls to dance together as a team for the final time.
“I am most excited to perform with my teammates and the seniors this year in one of their last performances,” Deveso said. “I am also excited to show everyone how much our hard work is paying off.”
The team just competed at WCE nationals. It was the team’s first time being there which will help prepare them for years to come as they now know more of what to expect.
“There were many amazing teams and competitors. But, we put our hearts and souls onto that stage and really cherished every moment,” Deveso said.
