After almost a year of planning, OPHS club, Rays of Hope, plans to debut their very first Trivia Night at the Pavilion on Friday, April 4.
After the club’s creation last year, the members and board have partnered with different organizations and worked hard to raise money for various causes.
“We have reached out to local businesses for grants, and we’ve done SNAP raises, where we’ve just reached out to individual friends and family members,” club president Meera Shreedhar said. “But, we haven’t done a fundraiser that’s actively engaged with members of the community to support some sort of cause, so we wanted to host a fundraiser that was engaging.”
To continue their fight against injustice in a hands-on way, the club ultimately decided on a Trivia Night.
“Some stuff people can look forward to if they come to the trivia night are snacks, drinks and most likely pizza,” vice president Marissa Kalan said. “We’ll also have a whole bunch of rounds of trivia, and the final winner will get a prize.”
Months of rescheduling due to timing conflicts has made the finalization of the event even more exciting for the club.
“People can look forward to making a positive contribution and giving back to the community in a meaningful manner through donations,” Shreedhar said. “Everything will be donated to the California School-Based Health Alliance, which is an organization that directly works with underserved communities, schools and educators to ensure that students in those areas are able to have access to healthcare.”
