With spring break finally arriving after what seems like a millennia, Oak Park High School students are ready to take a well-deserved break. It seems like even with all the chaos of approaching tests, applications and CAASPP testing, students have found a way to plan a week of fun with their friends to balance out all the stress.
“School has been getting a little more stressful now with AP exams coming up and the school year almost being over, so there’s lots of tests going on,” sophomore Nini Tu wrote to the Talon. “Spring break is super good to destress because we get a nice break before exam season, so we can use the time to hang out and stop worrying about school that much and also catch up on studying.”
Some are excited for a period of rest and peace while getting the opportunity to catch up on studying. Others are ready to go all out and transition for a week of fun.
“I’m super excited for spring break! My family and I are going to Coachella for the first time,” senior Haley Trang wrote to the Talon. “It’s a new experience for me but I love a lot of artists this year. I can’t wait for break to start. We need one”.
Coachella is notorious for its immersive experiences and the shows they put on tend to feature lots of new and upcoming artists that cater to people of all ages. As exciting as Coachella is, other students plan on taking it easy by going to practice and seeing some friends and family.
“I’m going to have morning practice and afternoon practice and I have family friends coming over,” sophomore Pablo Ingrum wrote to the Talon.
As Ingrum prepares for a week of training and spending time with family and friends, junior Jerry Jin is excited to see the Minecraft movie. Additionally, he hopes to be able to add a little something extra to his closet when he gets the chance.
“I’m so excited for spring break,” Jin wrote to the Talon. “I’m gonna go watch the Minecraft movie and scream at the top of my lungs ‘chicken jockey,’ and then go thrifting”.
The Minecraft movie just recently came out and has become a popular hit starring actor Jack Black. It’s become a trend in movie theatres to clap after every scene and throw popcorn at the screen. Although messy, it’s definitely something students can look forward to. While Jack Black immerses himself in a world of Minecraft, junior Jade Chang is excited to travel to Boston and Northern California.
“We’re going to visit Tufts, BU, Harvard, and a few other schools,” Chang wrote to the Talon, “We planned out all of the restaurants we’re eating at and made reservations so I’m really excited for that (lots of Italian food obviously). When we go to Sacramento we’re visiting UCSC, UCMER, UCD and a few others and made reservations at a lot of Asian food places like hot pot.”
OPHS has been confirmed a top rated school for academics, and it’s no doubt OPHS’s students are just as good at planning out a week of fun and peaceful rest. Whatever it is that students end up accomplishing this week, whether it be catching up on rest or exploring the world, they are gearing up to take on the rest of the year.
