The Oak Park High School girls golf team returns to the 2025 season driven to succeed. Each shot is taken with precision to continue their winning streak.
“From last year, we’ve expanded as a team and golfers overall,” sophomore Mylei Chairuttanativech said. “We’ve learned a lot from each other and continue to grow.”
With three new freshmen joining and two seniors leaving, the returning team is ready to pass on their knowledge and passion for the game.
“I am feeling excited for the upcoming season,” junior Nina Xu said. “I miss being able to practice in a group. There are a few freshmen coming in, so I am also excited to see what changes they bring for the team.”
The girls golf team practices rigorously to maintain their skills. Golf requires a versatile skill set that each girl works hard to hone.
“We practice every Monday through Thursday, around 3:30-5:00 pm,” Chairuttanativech said. “We work on the range for about an hour and practice our putting afterwards. On some days, we spend two hours playing nine holes.”
No matter what challenges the team faces, they continue to support one another through all hurdles.
“The team is great at keeping morale high, always encouraging one another and, of course, we have team dinners,” Xu said.
The practice pays off, as the OPHS girls golf team is undefeated in the Coastal Canyon League. Senior Madeleine Kim captains the team and is determined to bring teammates into their golf community.
“I think it’s really interesting that no one on our team has ever experienced a league loss,” Kim said. “I am really proud of my teammates, and I am excited to see what we can do this year.”
