The loud speaker echoed in the classrooms as the senior Homecoming court nominees were announced. Seniors Lexi Lavintman and Angus Rein were included in the couples nominated.

Lavintman and Rein have been a couple for almost nine months, meeting two summers ago due to some misfortune.

“My cat ran away and I posted a bunch of stuff about it,” Lavintman said. “She’s back, but Angus, a complete stranger, reached out to me. It was very sweet because he didn’t know who I was, but still wanted to help.”

Sharing his perspective, Rein explains his memory of their first encounter.

“I saw a missing cat and I thought it was such a tragic moment so I reached out,” Rein said. “I vaguely knew Lexi, I saw her in some classes. I didn’t really think much of reaching out about the cat, but it ended up being a very good thing.”

As individuals, Rein and Lavintman are very interesting as well, which shows in their hobbies.

“I love music,” Lavintman said. “I collect records so I have maybe over 400 vinyls together and I wish more people listened to vinyl.”

Rein’s hobbies are more geared towards the STEM field and nature.

“Some interests of mine are like anything that has to do with engineering,” Rein said. “I like 3-D printing or anything that has to do with the water like sailing and water skiing.”

Clearly Rein’s love of water flows deep; Lavintman and Rein’s fondest memory took place while the couple went paddle-boarding.

“When we went paddle boarding it was very pretty, then Lexi got scared by a turtle and fell into the lake,” Rein said. “It was all in all a very good experience for both of us.”

Lavintman chimed in: “Then he rescued me.”

Rein’s Homecoming proposal to Lavintman was also memorable.

“It was wonderful. He had me go to a park and did it with our good friends, who are also nominees, Andrea and Royce,” Lavintman said. “I was sitting in the parking lot and Andrea came out. I was like ‘Why are you here? I’m here to meet up with Angus, but I can’t find him.’ Then, Andrea was like ‘oh my goodness, I’m meeting up with Royce, but I can’t find him.’

“Angus and Royce popped out from hiding and had very big signs and Angus’s was very cute, exactly the one that I wanted. It says ‘Sorry to bug you but will you be my lady at hoco?’ It has a bunch of ladybugs and he had little ladybug ears and wings. It was very cute.”

After the elaborate proposal, Lavintman is looking forward to what comes next.

“I’m extremely excited to be a part of Hoco Court,” Lavintman said. “Extremely.”

Following Lavintman’s enthusiasm, Rein brings in his opinions on being nominated for Homecoming court.

“I never imagined myself in this position, but I think it’s a cool opportunity.”

And if there was any question about if they are attending the Homecoming dance, Lavintman put them to rest.

“Heck yes we are,” Lavintman said.
