A few weeks before his audition, senior Peter Mendoza began assiduously preparing for his first fall musical audition. Although he found the audition process nervewracking due to the smaller audience, Mendoza was determined to overcome his anxiety.
Reflecting on his audition experience, Mendoza describes his process and the decisions he made.
“Since this was a musical, we had to select a song that Mrs. Schneider prepared for us, a little snippet, and then choose [another song] of our own,” Mendoza said. “I ended up choosing ‘Still’ and ‘You’ll Be Found’ from ‘Dear Evan Hansen.’”
Mendoza’s preparation paid off as he ended up with the roles of Jabberwock, the King of Hearts and Dr. Burridge.
“I was pretty happy to get these roles,” Mendoza said. “I was just happy to get a part and [be a part of] the play.”
Theater has been a continuous part of Mendoza’s life since third grade, with the exception of the time during the coronavirus.
“I’ve been in theater for quite a long time and I think that it’s definitely made me more confident,” Mendoza said. “While I don’t plan on pursuing theater in college–I plan on pursuing nursing– I still hope to be able to just perform in some kind of troupe in college.”
