Being new to both acting and singing can be quite challenging for many. However, sophomore Lucas Dunlop has shown immense talent by landing a leading role in the fall musical.

“This is my first play and musical, and I’m really happy about that … I think it’s going to be really fun as we continue to rehearse and prepare.”

Dunlop attended both singing and acting classes to prepare for his audition, with hopes of landing the lead roles of either Alfred or Dodgy. A few hours after his audition, he received a callback for both Alfred and Dodgy.

“I got a call back for Alfred as they weren’t calling back for [Dodgy], so I just received a call back for [him],” Dunlop said. “However, since they had extra time, I did a callback for Dodgy.”

Although Dunlop did not receive the role of Alfred, he is beyond satisfied with being Dodgy, as it was the role he had hoped for.

“I was really happy. I was also auditioning for Alfred, and even though I didn’t get that, Gal is very deserving of that role. I wanted Duchess almost a little bit more than Alfred, so I was really excited when I got the role.”

Dunlop shares a partial connection with his character Dodgy as they share both similar and different traits.

“I sort of connect with my character because, when I’m not with a specific group of friends that I’m comfortable with, I tend to express myself more and be more extroverted,” Dunlop said. “However, we are also not that similar because Dodgy looks down on other people and I don’t do that.”
