Junior Peyton Watnick has been training to become a “triple threat,” developing his skills in singing, acting and dancing. He began acting in theater around four years ago, started dancing three years ago and has been singing for 11 years. Watnick’s most recent audition was for the fall musical and he describes the experience he gained to be very enriching.

“My audition went exactly as I’d hoped it would. I felt pretty confident, and I did get a callback, though it was only for one of the three characters I auditioned,” Watnick wrote. “[Later,] I went to callbacks and they decided last minute to give me a callback for the character I wanted most, which was exciting.”

Watnick received the role of Nigel and although he was slightly disappointed in the beginning, he eventually grew to be fond of his role.

“I am satisfied with the character I have. I was honestly a bit disappointed at first but [now] I am completely happy where I am,” Watnick wrote. “I could not sing some of the notes required for some of the [other] characters I auditioned for and this role gives me the opportunity to dance a lot, which is one of my favorite parts of theater.”

Watnick also relates to some aspects of his character.

“I connect with my character quite well in some ways. I am able to find ways to relate to his situation pretty easily and use that to make better choices [in portraying him] accordingly, but I have a hard time getting into the insanity of his mental state,” Watnick wrote.

The announcement of a fall musical was very beneficial for Watnick as he had the opportunity to improve his skills in acting, as well as highlight his skills in singing and dancing.

“I was really excited when I heard that we were doing a fall musical because I am weakest at acting in the three areas of theater, so a musical gives me the ability to do what I love and am best at,” Watnick wrote
