Kanan Shuttle to add additional stops

County takes suggestions for expansion of shuttle stops

Kanan Shuttle transports community members and students across Oak Park. The free service plans to expand their number of stops in the future for the convenience of the community (Meghana Mudunuri/Talon).

The Kanan Shuttle is set to expand the locations of its stops, pending requests and suggestions from Oak Park residents.

Ventura County Supervisor Linda Parks announced the expansion at the Municipal Advisory Council meeting Tuesday, Jan. 24.

The shuttle, founded in 2013, is a free service available to individuals in the Oak Park and Agoura area. The partnership between Oak Park Unified School District and Ventura County has allowed the shuttle to remain free of charge.

“The fact that it’s free is a big plus, because it opens up its services to everybody in Oak Park, and even to those in Agoura Hills,” MAC student liaison Olivia Chang said.

The shuttle currently provides transportation to and from neighborhood schools and residential areas in Oak Park.

“The Kanan Shuttle has become an integral part of Oak Park. Kids take it to and from school, parents use it to run errands — the list goes on,” Chang said.

According to Chang, the county will be taking suggestions and requests for new stops in the area.

“It is one of the few public transportation systems that is not only free, but widely accessibly and greatly used,” Chang said.
