Kelly Majam’s future to play out at Cal Poly SLO
Senior Kelly Majam has been playing volleyball for four years and hopes to continue playing club volleyball next year. He plans on attending California Poly, San Luis Obispo and is majoring in architecture. Majam said he is excited to meet new people, start his career in architecture and surf as much as possible.
Q: Why did you choose to play volleyball?
A: I wanted to join a group sport, and I wanted to work with a team, and the respective abilities of working with a team and having a good connection with others at the school.
Q: What’s your favorite part about playing volleyball here?
A: Hanging out with the boys.
Q: What’s your favorite volleyball memory?
A: Being a CIF champion and getting the game-winning kill in the quarterfinals. It was like being apart of a new family. We all went through the same stuff together, supporting each other all the way.
Q: What advice would you give to someone thinking about playing?
A: Don’t be afraid to join the team even if you have no experience. I think it’s a great experience to have, playing a team sport.
Q: Do you guys have any pre-game rituals/traditions?
A: Jason Fichera does a backflip to start every game.
Q: What’s your number and how did you choose it?
A: No. 9 because it’s the day of my birthday.
Q: If you could play any other sport what would it be and why?
A: I used to do track. I competed at nationals, but I gave that up to join a team sport.
Q: What’s the best part of your team here?
A: The comradery of all the players on the team — I think we have a really good connection and I think finding a chemistry like we have is really hard to find.
Q: If you could go anywhere in the world where would it be and why?
A: I would want to go to the bottom of the ocean as only 10 percent of it has been explored.
Q: Do you have any secret talents?
A: I am quite decent at playing the piano. Some of my favorite pieces to play are “Clocks” and “The Scientist” and anything [else] Coldplay.
Q: What’s your favorite pre-game snack?
A: Pre-game Taco Bell Baja Blast Freeze.
Q: What would you say is your spirit animal?
A: A sea otter because I love to be in the water and I love dogs. Sea otters are basically water dogs with great personality.
