Outdoor basketball courts to be resurfaced
School board approves construction
The Oak Park Unified School District school board approved the OPHS outdoor basketball courts to be resurfaced, as of Feb. 18.
The construction has not been scheduled yet, according to Assistant Principal Jason Meskis, but will most likely take about two weeks to complete and “will be done by Sport Court of Southern California.”
The cost of the project, $20,000, will be paid for through Measure S bond fund money which covers facility improvement on school campuses. Measure S was passed in 2016 by Oak Park voters and gives OPUSD $60 million in bond money to distribute to district projects centering around improving infrastructure and construction on school campuses district-wide.
“We had a proposal to do the basketball courts and the tennis courts and funding wasn’t available to do both projects [at the time]. The tennis courts were done [earlier this year] and they came out beautifully, so now [we are doing the basketball courts too],” Meskis said.
The courts are used by the physical education classes at OPHS, the Agoura Youth Basketball Association and the OPHS boys’ and girls’ basketball teams.
“It’s gonna be great! It’s going to look nice,” Meskis said.
