The Student Identity Showcase is now underway, beginning with a handprint activity that took place during lunch on Feb. 10th. This event was hosted by art teacher Anna Mendez in room C-8. The handprints will be part of the showcase that is taking place during the last week of February, as well as the first week of March.

“The idea is that students will paint their hands with washable paint and essentially make an imprint of the hand on the cardstock. Then from there the idea is to cut out the shape of the hand and display them [on the I-building] as part of the showcase event the last week in February and first week in March,” English teacher Jennifer Hankins said.

With the showcase being centered around the theme of identity, these handprints are meant to reflect the individuality of participating students. It also allows the students to be an active part of the showcase’s activities.

“The goal of this activity was to involve all students to be a part of the Student Identity Showcase. I believe that a major part of the student identity is the community we create with the people around us, some of these people we have known since kindergarten, some we have gotten to meet this year,” senior and organizer of the Student Identity Showcase, Amaan Nabeel, said.

The overall event went very well, according to both Amaan and Hankins.

Thank [you to] the students who came, and look out for your handprint at the Showcase starting on Feb. 28th,” Hankins said.
