Podcast: In-Depth Analysis of the Greatest Artists

(Huggins) INTRO-With around 95.6 % of the American population listening to music everyday….. Many people have different opinions about what genres are the best, or even which artists are the best. In this podcast, Casey and I will take a deep dive into the music scene and provide facts to back up our opinions on who the best musicians are. We will be covering who is the best artist today, best artist of all time, best singer of all time, and the greatest rapper of all time.

(Hirsh) BEST ARTIST TODAY with The Weekend: Blinding Lights into Doja Cat: Say So playing in background- My best artist of today I would have to say,  my best male artist is TheWeeknd. He has consistently been one of the most streamed artists over the past few years on Spotify, and has 11 songs that have featured on the Billboard Hot 100, including the No.1 ranked song in Billboard history “Blinding Lights”. And my best female artist of today is Doja Cat. She has amassed an enormous fanbase in the last couple years, primarily through the popular social media app TikTok where many of her songs went viral. Some of her biggest hits include “Say So”, “Kiss Me More” with SZA, and “You Right” with none other than The Weeknd.

(Huggins) BEST ARTIST TODAY with Drake: Gods Plan into Adele: Someone Like You playing in background-When it comes to the best artist today, in my opinion… This is a very easy choice. Drake is the best male artist, and Adele is the best female artist. Drake has the best versatility out of anyone in the music scene atm. Adele in my opinion  is one of the greatest singers of all time, and 30 is an amazing album.

(Hirsh) GREATEST ARTIST OF ALL TIME with Michael Jackson: Billy Jean into Katy Perry: Firework playing in the background- So, my best artist of all time, my best male artist of all time is Michael Jackson and I don’t think much needs to be said about the King of Pop. One of the best-selling artists of all time, one of the most impactful artists of all time, one of the greatest performers of all time, Michael Jackson had the full package, and it’s unlikely we’ll see an artist like him for a very long time, if ever. And my best female artist of all time is Katy Perry. She had an undeniable grip on pop culture as a whole. When I was a kid, if you turned on the radio you were bound to hear Katy Perry, whether it was “California Girls”, “Firework”, ‘Roar”,  or another one of her smash hits.

(Huggins) GREATEST ARTIST OF ALL TIME with Kanye West: All Falls Down into Drake: Take Care playing in the background-When it comes to the greatest of all time,  This is Easy, Kanye West, and Rihanna. Their influence on the music scene is unbelievable, and many artists look up to them. When it comes to charting songs, Kanye has 9 different number one songs, and has produced 11 different top 10 songs. When it comes to Rihanna, she’s the best digital selling artist of all time, and currently has 14 number one charting songs.

(Hirsh) BEST SINGER OF ALL TIME with Freddie Mercury: Bohemian Rhapsody into Another One Bites the Dust playing in the background- My best singer of all time is Freddie Mercury. For most of his career he was the lead singer of Queen and much of the band’s success can be attributed to his contributions, notably their most popular song and in my opinion the greatest song ever made “Bohemian Rhapsody”. But his musical genius isn’t all he had going for him. He was also a legendary vocalist, probably the best I’ve ever heard. Some of his best vocal performances can be found on the songs “Somebody to Love”, “Don’t Stop Me Now”, “Who Wants to Live Forever”, and “The Show Must Go On”, among others.

(Huggins) BEST SINGER OF ALL TIME with Ariana Grande: No Tears Left to Cry into Stuck with You playing in the background-The Best singer of all time is a touchy subject.. Some people argue with classic artists like Madonna and Mariah Carey, while some people go with the current day singers. Personally, I feel like current day music is so much better, and I feel like Ariana Grande has it. Whether Ariana Grande is singing, or acting, either way she’s great at it. What really makes her so special is how easily and often she changes up her octave range. Ariana was named one of 2019 most influential people of the year, and I feel like if she releases new music in 2022, she could easily make that list again.

(Hirsh) GREATEST RAPPER OF ALL TIME with Kendrick Lamar: Alright into DUCKWORTH playing in the background- Since Aaron and I both have Kanye West as our “best rapper”, I’ll say a little bit about my second best rapper, Kendrick Lamar. One of the more versatile and well-rounded artists I’ve listened to, he combines a fast, rhythmic flow with top-tier production to create projects that are nothing short of masterpieces. What hooks people to his music is the diversity of his discography. You go from the hype old school hip-hop feel of “m.A.A.d City” to the mellow, melodic style of “LOVE.” He’s completely changed the rap game over the last decade and has enthralled so many.

(Huggins) GREATEST RAPPER OF ALL TIME- Because Casey and I both have Kanye in our Greatest of all time, I feel like Drake is second. Drake’s longevity and his versatility really make him better than any other artist. On March 9th 2010, Drake dropped his debut single “Over” which peaked at #14 on Billboard’s Top 100 list, and since then Drake’s never dropped a bad song or project. If Kanye didn’t enter the music scene 6 years before Drake I honestly feel like Drake would be the greatest musician of all time.

(Drake: God’s Plan into Take Care (Huggins) OUTRO-Well, There it is. With opinions mixed in with facts, Casey and I have come up with the best artist today, greatest artist of all time, best singer of all time, and the greatest rapper of all time.
