A new season begins

The Oak Park cross country season begins for boys and girls.

With the school year back in full swing, fall sports make an entrance into the year. One of the largest fall sports programs based on the number of student-athletes at the school is cross country. Coach Steve White expresses his excitement for the season.

“Returning athletes doing what they did last year and improving upon it and a large freshman group of boys who I think are going to be very talented,” said White on what to look for this upcoming season.

The first meet is the “ASICS Cool Breeze Evening Invitational” at Pomona on Sept. 3. The first league meet begins Sept. 22 at Oak Canyon Park.

Seniors in the program express their views going into their final year on the team.

“I feel excited and ready to start the season. A big part of cross country is the incredible team aspect, and so I’m glad to finally be one of the seniors on the team,” senior Nick Marsh said.

The cross country team hopes to get to as fast of a start as they had last year at the ASICS Cool Breeze Evening Invitational, as last year the team won 4/7 races.

“We have a lot of new freshmen on the team and are a very connected team. We are all looking forward to competing,” senior Luc Lepin said.

As with all sports, cross country is a great activity full of memories for the participants. A link to the schedule is here if you want to attend any of the events.
