A tribute to Lisa Marie Presley

Daughter of Rock and Roll legend, Elvis Presley, passes away at 54

A tribute to Lisa Marie Presley

Lisa Marie Presley, the only child of rock-and-roll legend, Elvis Presley, passed away at age 54. She was rushed to West Hills Hospital in Los Angeles, Calif. on Jan. 12, shortly after going into a state of cardiac arrest. The cause of her fatal second cardiac arrest is still unknown, as doctors continue to conduct a postmortem.

Just two days before her sudden hospitalization, she was seen in a paparazzi video, struggling to walk at the Golden Globes. On the same night, Austin Butler won the award for ¨Best Actor¨ for his portrayal of Elvis in the recent multi-million dollar grossing biopic picture. Butler thanked the Presley family in his acceptance speech, stating, ¨Thank you for opening your hearts, your memories, your home to me. Lisa Marie, Priscilla, I love you forever.”

The respect was mutual as Presley offered much praise for Butler’s performance as her late father. When asked what it was like watching Austin on stage, Presley responded, ¨It was mind-blowing, truly mind-blowing.¨

Elvis Presley was an entertainment icon for a multitude of reasons beyond his outlandish outfits and stage presence. He was heavily influenced by blues legends such as BB King and even rerecorded Big Mama Thornton’s “Hound Dog,” which became one of his biggest hits. His unique sound, a never seen before blend of gospel and rock and roll, changed the world of music forever.

Lisa Presley witnessed several failed attempts to save her father’s life at only nine years of age. She made it known how these experiences deeply affected her. Upon losing her father at the young age of nine, Presley and her mother developed a close bond. Priscilla Presley referred to her daughter as ¨the most passionate, strong, and loving woman¨ she has ever known.

Presley herself became a singer-songwriter and released three albums throughout her career. Her first album, “To Whom It May Concern”, was released in 2003, and her full discography has received a total of 9.5 million official streams to date.

Rather than shying away from her father’s fame, Presley used it for philanthropic causes. She founded a non-profit organization named, ¨The Presley Charitable Foundation,” whose main goal is to provide living space for unhoused families. This living space became known as Presley Place, located in New Orleans. On top of founding this organization, Lisa Marie also supported an organization much like the famous Make-A-Wish foundation called The dream factory.

Presley’s first marriage was to American singer and guitarist, Danny Keough. Together they had Riley and Benjamin Keough. Riley will be playing Daisy Jones, in the highly anticipated adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid´s “Daisy Jones and the Six,” coming in early 2023. This book is based loosely on the story of the timeless soft rock band, Fleetwood Mac. When asked if Riley had a Daisy Jones of her own, growing up, the young actress mentioned her mother

“I was raised by somebody who did their own thing and didn’t really care what other people thought. She was definitely an inspiration to me,” Keough said.

After Presley’s second marriage to rock star, Michael Jackson, and her third to Nicholas Cage, Presley welcomed twin girls with her fourth husband, Michael Lockwood, named Harper and Finley.

On July 12, 2020, Presley had to endure something no mother should. She received the devastating news her eldest son, Benjamin, had died by suicide. Presley admitted to the press she ¨blamed herself every day” following the news of her son. Presley was never the same.

Everyone who knew Presley regarded her as a passionate, charismatic, and strong-willed woman. In light of her passing, the world continues to mourn and honor this incredible human being.
