Movie Review: Put ‘Puss In Boots: The Last Wish’ on your watch list
“Puss In Boots: The Last Wish” exceeded expectations with animation, production and representation of Hispanic culture. Some audience members have said that this sequel had better animation than “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” which won Best Animated Feature in 2019.
This charming and entertaining film is sure to entertain audiences of all ages. The story follows the beloved character, Puss in Boots, as he embarks on a quest to fulfill his last wish. Along the way, he faces many challenges and enemies who try to stop him. Alongside these enemies, though, he also encounters new friends.
The animation is unlike most of its genre, with great detail in every hair on the animals, every leaf on a tree. The voice actor for Puss In Boots, Antonio Banderas, made both the character and film come to life.
While this movie is based on a German fairy tale and can be categorized as a “kids” movie, the humor is clever and appeals to both children and adults.
“DreamWorks took the animation in a bold new direction with ‘Puss In Boots: The Last Wish’, diverting from the visual style of previous Shrek movies and landing somewhere between Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Attack on Titan, and The Mitchells vs. the Machines,” Jimmy Henderson from Collider said. “Bright colors, variable frame rates and unique camera POVs certainly enhance the viewing experience.”
Joining Antonio Banderas and his co-star Salma Hayek in this sequel are Florence Pugh, Olivia Colman, Ray Winstone and John Mulaney. Each of these talented actors brought substance and soul to what may have otherwise appeared as a child’s film. After the long awaited 11 years since the first “Puss In Boots” movie, the wait was definitely worth it.
Our overall recommendation: go and see “Puss In Boots: The Last Wish,” in theaters now.
