Boys volleyball lead league after successful matches

The teams’ high hopes became a reality

Oak Park High School’s boys volleyball team came out swinging with a week of wins against Oaks Christian, Moorpark and Royal. Each level has prevailed so far as important league games began.

All levels started the week on Monday, Mar. 13, playing a non-league match against Oaks Christian. Frosh/Soph and JV both won their games in two sets, while varsity won 3-1.

With Moorpark being their first league match in Coastal Canyon, the whole program had a clean sweep.

“I feel that our team has really come together and exceeded many expectations. I see the work my teammates are putting in and it really shows every time they step on the court,” said senior varsity captain Jack Rosenfeld.

On Thursday, Mar. 16, OPHS traveled to Royal to play their second league match. Frosh/Soph won, propelling them forward in Coastal Canyon; JV was battling the whole game, losing in a close third set.

Varsity had a crucial win against Royal, taking the game in three sets: 27-25, 25-22 and 25-18.

“All the boys really showed out and played amazing. This was the first win we had against Royal since 2019, so it was really exciting,” senior varsity captain Preston Kling said.

As the Eagles battled it out on Tuesday, Mar. 21, all teams had big wins against Camarillo High School. Varsity won the game in three sets: 25-14, 25-14 and 25-15.

The Eagles took another big win Thursday, Mar. 23, against Simi Valley High School. They won in four sets at home: 25-18, 19-25, 25-15 and 27-25.
