Newbury Park High School student murdered
An altercation between Newbury Park High School student and football player Daniel Morales and, allegedly, Tyler Ostertag occurred at a Taco Bell on Flynn Road in Camarillo on Monday August 31 at 1:15 p.m. Morales was stabbed once in the chest and was pronounced dead after undergoing intensive surgery that night. Morales was 16.
“Everyone on campus – students, teachers and admin grieve for him,” NPHS senior Taylor Wang said.
Police have arrested 22-year-old Tyler Ostertag on suspicion of murder. At his arraignment on September 3, Ostertag plead not guilty to murder charges. If Ostertag currently has two felony convictions (strikes), which under California’s three-strikes law, would mean that a third strike would send him to prison for life. He was on parole at the time of the incident.
