Serve, return, rally, score, win. After a long season of practices and games, girls tennis are undefeated Coastal Canyon league champions and are now moving on to Division I CIF finals.
“League happens over about a few weeks and we play different schools in our Coastal Canyon League and we have to play every school twice, once at home and once at their school,” junior Anika Amladi said. “The school who wins the most sets or is undefeated becomes league champions.”
The girls all had strong performances this season, bringing home a champion title. As they now advance into playoffs, the team will compete against D1 teams widespread around southern California.
“For the individual league finals, each school sends two singles players and two doubles teams to compete for the league championship and individual CIF positions,” junior Niyati Guram said. “The champion and finalist for both singles and doubles qualify for individual CIF.”
The team is full of strong players who share unbreakable bonds. No matter what, the team strives to play and cheer for one another.
“Winning league undefeated this year is an amazing feeling. We have all worked so hard this year and it is great to see that the hard work is paying off,” Guram said. “It is so rewarding to achieve this with such an amazing group of people. The team has come together so much over the course of the season and it is amazing to achieve this title with this group of people.”
After all the hard work in their league games, the girls can see the months of practice paid off. They unfortunately lost their match against Calabasas on Nov. 7 which concluded their season, but it doesn’t overshadow the effort it took to take first in the Coastal Canyon League.
