It’s that time of the year again, the holiday season is rolling in and everyone’s wish lists are filling up with the must-have items throughout this year. But are these items really worth the excitement—or the price tag? Here is a closer look at this year’s most popular holiday items to find out what is worth your money and what is better left on the shelf.

These cozy slippers are a perfect gift for a friend, or a treat for yourself! I can see myself using them everywhere—wearing them in the mornings whilst getting coffee, after late night sports practice, slipping them on after a long day at school. These are convenient and effortless shoes that are efficient for many situations. The only downside is the price. At $120, Uggs are on the pricier side compared to other slippers or cozy footwear. Some may say they are a quality over quantity shoe, but most Uggs get stained if a splash of water gets on them. These knitted Uggs are good because they do not get affected by water, but I would say these are mostly indoor shoes. There are also other slippers that give you the same look for a cheaper price. I searched up Uggs on Amazon, and found numerous “dupes” that look just like the product, but are 100 dollars cheaper for every type of Ugg shoe. The Uggs are efficient and provide great comfort, but if you are not a name-brand person, there are many other affordable alternatives that are worth considering.

This year, I made a major upgrade, by swapping the first-generation Airpods to the Airpod Pros 2, and the difference is drastic. The pros offer amazing noise cancellation, making them perfect for focusing on what you are listening to. Their soft, cushioned design provides a comfortable fit for hours of listening. The sound clarity is amazing, and offers high-quality listening for whether you are watching a Christmas movie, listening to your holiday playlist, or catching up with friends or family over calls. However, the price of these earbuds may make people hesitant to buy them. While there are cheaper alternatives out there, they don’t match the quality of the Apple AirPods. These options may lack the powerful noise cancellation, crisp quality, and efficiency of the Apple AirPods. The Airpods Pro 2 are built to last. If you are on a tighter budget this holiday season, I suggest Beats wireless earbuds, which are another noise-cancellation wireless earbuds costing $99. However, they are known for being tricky to use and have a shorter battery life of 8 hours, whereas the Airpod battery life is 30 hours. If you are looking for something that meets every requirement—sound, comfort, and longevity— the Airpod Pros 2 are 100% worth the splurge.

Available: Rhode, Sephora, Amazon, Ulta Beauty
The Rhode Lip Tint has been popular for years, but to me, it is not exciting as it appears to be online. Don’t get me wrong, the product works great, but the results still don’t justify the $18 price tag. I think Aquaphor, which is twice the size for $4, works just as well for moisturizing your lips. There are many drugstore makeup brands that sell lip glosses that have the same effect, like the NYX butter gloss which is $14 for three colors. However, it still is a thoughtful gift. The lip tint is a great Secret Santa gift, or stocking stuffer, and will make your friends feel truly special. While it may not be the best value, it still is a fun present that works for holiday gift-giving.

Available: Kendra Scott, Amazon, Target, Nordstrom
When it comes to gifting, or putting items on your wishlist, Kendra Scott necklaces are a perfect way to make a sparkly statement for any occasion. You’ve probably seen the Elisa Pendant everywhere online— it’s a classic! But the heart pendant deserves way more love, and looks great with every outfit. I have the gold, iridescent drusy, but there are so many different options to choose from, each matching your own personal style. For $45, this is not the cheapest piece of jewelry out there, but you are getting a high-quality, durable piece of jewelry you will wear again and again. Whether you are treating yourself or finding a meaningful gift for a friend, this pendant is guaranteed to stand out in any jewelry box.

First, it was Hydroflasks, then Stanley Cups and now Owalas are stealing the spotlight. These unique water bottles are definitely one of the most talked about bottles on the internet, and they definitely live up to the buzz. One thing that stands out about these water bottles are their fun mismatched colors, and the unique “free-sip” feature, allowing the drinker to sip from the straw or spout, ideal for everything from workouts to commutes. The bottle also has a built-in straw and a cap that locks to prevent spills. Plus with insulation that lasts up to 24 hours, it is perfect to stay refreshed throughout the day. These water bottles are well-priced for their efficiency and style, especially compared to past “trending” water bottles. Ultimately, Owalas offer a great price and drinking experience, it’s easy to see why they are popular.

Available: Hoka, Amazon, Foot Locker, Dicks Sporting Goods
Hoka Bondi 8s are a great comfort shoe from running errands to going on hikes. These are not your normal running shoes, they are super comfortable and are ideal for anyone. I went on a 3-mile run in these and usually deal with ankle problems throughout my runs, but these shoes surprised me and gave me great ankle support throughout the run, showing they are built for comfort and functionality. What stands out to me the most is their lightweight materials, while still giving me maximum support. Another fun bonus is all the colors to choose from. When it comes down to the price, the average running shoe is $121 dollars, and from someone who has twisted their ankle over six times, most running shoes that offer good support are hard to come by. But from my experience so far, Hokas are a great running shoe for casual runners, walkers, or just people who like a fun, comfy pair of shoes! These are definitely worth the investment.
When it comes to holiday gifting, there are plenty of options that truly live up to the hype. While price may be a consideration, the quality and lasting appeal of these products make most of them worthy investments. So, whether you’re treating yourself or finding the perfect gift for a friend, have no doubt these gifts will bring joy to the holidays.
