ASB has announced several updates to club policies for this 2025-26 school year, making clubs easier to maintain and simultaneously ensuring they meet club standards.
For the past few weeks, senior L.J. Johnson, Chair of the Food/Club/Blood committee, has been guiding and working alongside their peers to prepare for the upcoming club week.
“This year in particular, myself and my committee reviewed all club documents and revised them to simplify a few things as well as make it easier on our end when it comes to filing,” Johnson wrote to the Talon.
In fact, the Food/Club/Blood committee is noted as one of the most unique committees as they are in charge of planning blood and food drives, organizing club week and keeping control of the clubs with quarter summary forms.
“In ASB we mostly do paperwork and stuff for the community rather than the school,” Johnson wrote. “The six of us do piles of paperwork, organize over a hundred clubs, work with club presidents and advisors and so much more in order to keep the OPHS club scene running.”
The committee has been preparing for club week for a long time, as the process can be time consuming.
“With over a hundred clubs at OPHS, filing all physical papers, checking online forms and chasing down missing information from potential future club presidents, this part usually takes us the longest,” Johnson wrote.
Some of the newest changes this year include a simpler club application process.
“We’ve adjusted wording and policies to help club leadership better understand what we need from them. Adding a required quarterly attendance record to help ASB keep better track of the state of clubs throughout the year,” Johnson wrote.
Clubs can be a beneficial way for students to connect with their community, develop leadership skills and explore their interests.
“The main goal for clubs/club week is ultimately to help provide students with community,” Johnson wrote. “A lot of people get in their heads about club stuff and what it will look like on a college application but it should be about finding people, spaces and activities you enjoy.”
Club week is from Sept. 22 to Sept. 26, and the first set of club forms is due at the end of the day on Sept. 8.
