Nothing can be more exciting than finding out you booked the role of one of your favorite characters. For junior Paige Walker, she was beyond excited to play such a significant character in the show.

“I was ecstatic,” junior Paige Walker said. “I was unsure of [the outcome], because there’s so many talented people.”

To prepare for her audition, Walker practiced lines, selected sections of a song to perform and practiced snippets of the show that were given to her. During her audition, she embraced the environment of the audition room, allowing her emotions to flow throughout the process. 

“Everybody was outside just practicing,” Walker said. “Our nerves were going crazy, but we were all comforting each other and practicing and it was a really fun time.”

The bond that Walker feels towards her character makes it easier for her to perform throughout the show. Not only does being able to relate to her character help her get a feel for the role, but it also allows her the opportunity to perform transparently.

“I would say my character and I have similar traits. She likes to give advice; that’s basically her whole deal as she is always looking out for Alice,” Walker said. “I feel that I do that with my friends a little bit, as they ask me [about my] opinions on things and I try to help in whatever way I can.” 

Walker has been participating in theater for many years, and although she doesn’t plan to pursue a career in theater after high school, she is still open to performing again as a future hobby. 

“I’ve been in theater in high school since my freshman year, but I have been doing it since elementary school,” Walker said. “I plan on doing [theater] in my senior year and maybe community theater or clubs on campus [in college], but I do not plan to pursue it as a profession.”
