Pinning down a win
County Mock Trial competition to distribute pins featuring freshman’s design
Freshman Shirin Dravid won the annual Ventura County Mock Trial pin design competition, and her artwork will be featured on pins given to all Mock Trial participants in February.
This year’s theme focused on the judicial system.
“I kinda just looked up [main things] used in the judicial system…the balance, gavel and books,” Dravid said.
The competition was open to all students, whether or not they are in Mock Trial.
“Each year I give Ms. Bojorquez a flyer about this competition, thinking it would be a fun thing for students to participate in,” U.S. history and Mock Trial teacher Victor Anderson said.
Art teacher Anna Bojorquez announced the competition to her art students in October and gave them approximately one week to submit their designs. About 50 entries were submitted from students across Ventura County.
Dravid has been interested in art since middle school.
“My friends seem to like my artwork,” Dravid said.
According to Dravid, she views art as a stress reliever, and enjoys multiple mediums of art.
“I can’t choose one specific medium; I choose mixed media,” Dravid said. “I splatter paint a lot. You can’t have art without splatter paint, I think.”
