Happy Friday, Oak Park. Here’s what you need to know to wrap-up your week and begin your weekend:

This Week: Awareness week 

Resilience was the theme of this year’s Awareness week. Guest speaker Corey Reed kicked off the week with an assembly based on this year’s theme regarding his disability Tuesday Jan. 12. Wednesday Jan. 13 guest speaker Julian Foley spoke about transgender awareness, followed by a community event “Making Resilient Teens” to encourage student success in the transition from high school to college. To finish the week, guest speaker Kylie Bamburger spoke about her experience with alopecia Thursday Jan. 15. Finally, In the evening, a slam poetry and performing arts event concluded this year’s Awareness week.

 

Next Week: Comedysportz

Comedysportz will hold a game next Friday Jan. 22 from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

 

Last Week: Boys’ basketball begins league play with victory over Camarillo

After notching an impressive 12-5 record in nonconference play, the Eagles defeated Camarillo High School 56-44 on the road. Senior guard Keyan Bazargan led the team with 21 points, while sophomore forward Riley Battin tallied 10 rebounds. Oak Park takes on Moorpark tonight at home.

 

Beyond Oak Park: Cruz closing in on Trump in Iowa

After accruing massive leads both nationally and in early voting states such as Iowa and New Hampshire, Donald Trump’s poll numbers have dwindled in the Hawkeye state as a result of the ascent of Ted Cruz. According to a recent Des Moines Register/Bloomberg poll, Cruz has a three point lead over Trump in Iowa. After deliberately avoiding conflict with Trump earlier in the race, Cruz will have to adapt now that he’s threatening the businessman in the polls.
