Happy Friday, Oak Park. Here’s what you need to know to wrap-up your week and begin your weekend:

This week: tennis, volleyball, football and golf

Girls’ volleyball won 3-1 in their home game against Camarillo Tuesday, Oct. 4 and won 3-1 against Simi Thursday, Oct. 6.

Football will play an away game against Nordhoff tonight, Oct. 7. Junior varsity will play at 4 p.m. and varsity will play at 7 p.m.

Cross country will compete in the Clovis Invitational today, Oct. 7 and tomorrow, Oct. 8.

Girls’ golf won 238-254 in their away match against Camarillo Tuesday, Oct. 4 and won 217-230 in their away match against Simi Thursday, Oct. 6.

Next week: Football and cross country

Junior varsity football will play a home game against Grace Brethren Thursday, Oct. 13 at 4 p.m.

Varsity football will play Grace Brethren at Moorpark College Friday, Oct. 14  at 7 p.m.

Girls’ tennis will play an away game against Royal Monday, Oct. 10  at 3 p.m. They will play a home game against Chaminade Thursday, Oct. 13 at 3 p.m.

Girls’ volleyball will play an away game against Royal Monday, Oct. 10. Frosh-soph will play at 4 p.m., junior varsity at 5 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m.

Cross country has its second league meet Thursday, Oct. 13 at 3 p.m.

Girls’ golf has a match against Calabasas at the Los Robles course Monday, Oct. 10 at 2 p.m. They also have League Finals number 1 at Elkins Ranch at 12 p.m.

Beyond Oak Park: Death toll in Haiti rises to 280 as Hurricane Matthew surges through

Hurricane Matthew, the worst storm to hit Haiti in 50 years, struck the country three days ago. The government released a statement that 280 people have been confirmed dead yesterday, Oct. 6. A fragile communications system as well as a declining infrastructure not only posed risks to those attempting to escape the storm, but difficulties for officials and aid workers locating dead bodies as well. • New York cardinal Timothy Dolan announced that the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New York has created a compensation program for victims of sexual abuse yesterday, Oct. 6. The program is specifically dedicated to providing financial compensation for those abused by church leaders who are willing to sue. Read more from the Washington Post.
• Sightings of “killer clowns” have spread to Canada after many were reported in the United States since late summer of 2016. Local police have investigated such sightings and made several arrests for people making false reports and for people dressed in clown costumes. Read more from BBC News.
