Monday: California Shakeout upcoming, GOP office firebombed in North Carolina

Happy Monday, Oak Park. Here’s what you need to know to wrap up your weekend and begin your week:

Last week: football, volleyball and cross country

Football played an away game against Grace Brethren Friday, Oct. 14 and lost 7-53.

Girls’ varsity volleyball played an away game against Royal Monday, Oct. 10 and won 3-0.

Cross country competed at Oak Canyon Thursday, Oct. 13.

This week: Girls’ volleyball and the California Shakeout

Girls’ volleyball will play Moorpark at home Tuesday, Oct. 18 and will play Camarillo Thursday, Oct. 20 at home. For both games, frosh-soph will play at 4 p.m., junior varsity will play at 5 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m.

Girls’ golf has League Finals 2 and 3 at Soule Park at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Football plays at Simi Friday, Oct. 21. Junior varsity will play at 4 p.m. and varsity will play at 7 p.m.

Cross country will compete Friday, Oct. 21 at the Mt. Sac Invitational.

Girls’ tennis plays Moorpark at home Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 3 p.m. and Camarillo at home Thursday, Oct. 20 at 3 p.m.

The California Shakeout is this Thursday, Oct. 20. Students will spend time in their fourth period classes practicing safety precautions in the case of an earthquake.

Next week: Fall sports come to an end

Football will play Royal at home Friday, Oct. 28. Junior varsity will play at 4 p.m. and varsity will play at 7 p.m.

Girls’ tennis has a League Tournament at Moorpark Tuesday, Oct. 25 and Wednesday, Oct. 26 beginning at 9 a.m.

Cross country will compete at the Ventura County Championships at Lake Casitas on Friday, Oct. 28. The first race will begin at 1:30 p.m.

Beyond Oak Park: Republican office in North Carolina faces firebomb and graffiti threats

A Republican party office in North Carolina was firebombed yesterday, Oct. 16 when a bottle containing a flammable substance was thrown into the building through a front window. The contents ignited on their own and damaged the office’s interior. In addition, graffiti was written on an adjacent building, which warned “Nazi Republicans” to “leave town or else.” In response to this incident, GOP executive Dallas Woodhouse requested additional security for all GOP offices and events in North Carolina until Nov. 8.   • Donald Trump said that the election has been rigged against him on Twitter yesterday, Oct. 16. “The election is absolutely being rigged by the dishonest and distorted media pushing Crooked Hillary — but also at many polling places — SAD,” Trump said. The statement was made hours after Gov. Mike Pence said on NBC News that he and Trump would accept the results of the election. Read more from the New York Times.
  • In an early-morning televised address, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced the beginning of its offensive for the northern city of Mosul yesterday, Oct. 16.
