Garrett Shapiro is the youngest of three brothers, who have all participated in Oak Park High School’s athletic programs. He has been playing baseball since he was four and has been a part of the baseball program all four years at Oak Park, playing on varsity the past three years. Shapiro is an avid sports fan; he can be found in the front row at the basketball games hyping up the student section with its themed nights.

When did you start baseball and what made you want to play?

I was three and I got a message in a dream saying that baseball was the sport for me.

What’s your funniest baseball story?

The Zack Lin.

How far have you traveled to play baseball?

New York.

Do you hope to play baseball in college and where?

Yes, I am currently talking to a school in Texas.

Who is your favorite baseball player and why?

Bryce Harper because he hits dingers and he’s beautiful.

If you woke up and miraculously could be the best at any sport what sport would you choose?

Not football, because I like having my brain being functional. Probably hockey just to have some nice hair.

How much do sports impact your life?

Sports have changed my life, like how people eat In-N-Out for the first time and are like “Wow, this is awesome. I’m going to come here a lot.” But for me it is like “Wow, I’m going to follow sports everyday and know everything that is happening.”

The Shapiro brothers play a 3v3 basketball game, who would you want your opponents to be?

The Slajchert brothers. Wes knows I have him locked down in the post.

What’s your dream meal?

Hard to choose but anything Nate Holguin calls el raro.

Your ideal fantasy football team would contain what three players?

Jimmy Garoppolo, Marshawn Lynch, and Ben Rubenfeld.

What is your vision of a perfect day?

Hitting some dingers getting some Chipotle then having some friends over for a meal cooked by my mom.

Favorite game day dinner?

Coming home after a game to some tri-tip and mac and cheese cooked by my mom is tough to beat. If you’ve ever had my mom’s mac and cheese you would know why.

If you could have dinner with one person dead or alive who would it be?

Grigori Rasputin. Look him up.

Your top two game day songs?

“Furthest Thing” by Drake and “Love Sosa” by Chief Keef

What are Saturdays for?

The boys. I thought everyone knew this already.
