Geri Sterling has worked at Oak Park High School since 1991, starting work approximately 27 years ago.

Sterling began as the Associated Student Body Bookkeeper and part-time Athletic Secretary when Oak Park High School had under 400 students, and was staffed by about 35 employees.

“It made for a very close-knit group,” Sterling wrote. “We celebrated birthdays, holidays, etc., almost like a family. Since my two sons also went to school here, I knew almost every student by their first name. I’m grateful to have experienced and been a part of Oak Park [High School] back then.”

When the student store opened in 1997 and the Athletic Department expanded, Sterling’s job transitioned into a full-time Athletic Secretary.

Most of all, Sterling wrote that she’s going to miss the people she worked with and the energy they brought to her daily life.

“Working in a high school keeps you young and current,” Sterling wrote.

Sterling’s husband is also retired. They plan on traveling during different times of the year now that summer vacation won’t be their only free time. Regardless, Sterling wrote that she’ll spend plenty of time back home with her grandkids.

“I’m pretty much of a home-body, enjoying gardening, reading and just hanging out,” Sterling wrote.
